Snakes Alive offers lectures by experienced speaker and lecturer on herpetology on Reptiles & Arachnids to schools. Although we have a standard lecture, which is very popular, and covers some points, we can, on request, cover subjects in line with the National Curriculum as listed below, on reptiles and arachnids.
Life Processes and Living Things - 5. Living things in their environment.
Key Stage 1 (5-7 years) a. that there are different kinds of plants and animals in the local environment
Key Stage 2 (7-11 years) a. that different plants and animals are found in different habitats. b. how animals and plants in two different habitats are suited to their environment.
Key Stage 3 (11-14 years) a. that different habitats support different plants and animals b. how some organisms are adapted to survive daily and seasonal changes in their habitats f. factors affecting the size of poulations, including predation and competition for resources.
Key Stage 4 (14-16 years) a. how the distribution and relative abundance of organisms in a habitat can be explained in terms of adaption, competition and predation.
The lectures are given very much with a 'hands on' approach. Animals used to being handled will be offered to the students to handle so that they have the opportunity to study adaptions in detail.
Back-up notes for all the animals that we use are supplied to enable teachers to carry out course work after our visit if they wish.
Phone or e.mail Glenn or Maureen now for further information and a quotation.
( Snakes Alive carries full public liability insurance cover and staff are 'police checked'.)
